Upcoming Dates : Sunday 22nd September | 3:30 - 6:30pm Minimum age requirement for this class is 16 years. Those under 16 ( minimum of 9 years old ) must be accompanied by an adult who is also taking part in the class ( eg 2 attendees 2 places booked ). Tutor: Lorenzo Davitti Lorenzo Davitti was born in Florence and graduated in Psychology at the University of Florence, Italy, and earned a MA degree in Illustration and Visual Media at the London College of Communication, London, UK. He has worked as a freelance illustrator, animator and colourist before specialising in printmaking. He lives in London, where he also works as a Printmaking technician at UCA. Lorenzo has great knowledge in lino, etching, mono, wood cut and book binding. Lorenzo’s process is one where accidental gestures are counterbalanced by controlled application of the technique. Decisions regarding marks, lines and colours are taken intuitively and rapidly; in this experimental method, planning is as valid as improvisation or accident. What are the different techniques of printing that I will be learning? Drypoint printmaking Drypoint involves scratching an image into a thin plastic or metal sheet using a range of metal tools. The lines that are made are then filled with ink and transferred onto paper. Lino printmaking Lino is what we in the business call 'relief' printing and works in the opposite way to drypoint. You will work by cutting away everything but the image, then ink the outlying surface, and print onto paper. What experience do I need? You can be a complete beginner or already have experience. Our tutor will take you step by step on all processes. What will I go home with? You will leave with your own hand-made prints as well as the technical skills and knowledge to continue your artwork beyond the workshop.
