Service Description
This holiday, we’re introducing a series of seven observational drawing workshops—one each week. While each session builds on the last to develop skills progressively, they are also designed as standalone workshops, so children can join whichever themes interest them. Each session focuses on a new subject, allowing young artists to explore a range of ideas while developing a strong foundation in drawing and composition. The fourth workshop in the series explores On the Line: Patterns & Fabrics. In this session, children will work from a hanging arrangement of fabrics suspended on a washing line, featuring a variety of colours, patterns, and textures. The set-up introduces movement and flow, encouraging students to observe how fabric drapes, folds, and interacts with space. Students will focus on capturing the shapes and structure of fabric, exploring how to draw folds, overlaps, and the rhythm created by repeated patterns. There will be a strong emphasis on composition, spacing, and how elements hang and balance across the page. Working with watercolour and fine liners, children will explore how to combine fluid washes with controlled line work. They will use watercolour to build colour and tone, and fine liners to define pattern, detail, and structure within their compositions. This workshop is ideal for children who enjoy pattern, colour, and detailed mark-making, and want to develop their observational drawing skills. Suitable for both beginners and those looking to refine their technique, it offers a dynamic and engaging approach to working from life. By the end of the session, each participant will have created a vibrant fabric study, developing their understanding of pattern, movement, and composition through observational work. Spaces are limited—early booking is recommended. Knowledge Required Beginner-friendly. What You'll Get All equipment and materials provided.
