Service Description
This holiday, we’re introducing a series of seven observational drawing workshops—one each week. While each session builds on the last to develop skills progressively, they are also designed as standalone workshops, so children can join whichever themes interest them. Each session focuses on a new subject, allowing young artists to explore a range of ideas while developing a strong foundation in drawing and composition. The second workshop in the Observational Drawing series explores Bringing the Outside In: Garden Still Life. In this session, children will work from a carefully arranged collection of gardening objects and natural forms, such as tools, watering cans, trailing plants, and shears. The focus will be on observing a variety of textures, shapes, and reflective surfaces, encouraging students to look closely at both man-made and organic forms. Students will explore how to capture the structure and character of different objects, from the solid forms of tools to the softer, more fluid shapes of plants. There will be a strong emphasis on composition, layering, and how elements interact within a space. Working with soft pastels, children will develop techniques such as blending, layering, and mark-making to build rich surfaces and depth. They will explore how to represent reflections, contrast textures, and use colour to bring their compositions to life. This workshop is ideal for children who enjoy observational drawing and want to explore a mix of natural and constructed forms. Suitable for both beginners and those looking to refine their skills, it offers a thoughtful and engaging approach to composition, texture, and colour. By the end of the session, each participant will have created a detailed garden-inspired still life, developing their understanding of texture, form, and composition through observational work. Spaces are limited—early booking is recommended. Knowledge Required Beginner-friendly. What You'll Get All equipment and materials provided.
