Service Description

This holiday, we’re introducing a series of seven observational drawing workshops—one each week. While each session builds on the last to develop skills progressively, they are also designed as standalone workshops, so children can join whichever themes interest them. Each session focuses on a new subject, allowing young artists to explore a range of ideas while developing a strong foundation in drawing and composition. The fifth workshop in the series explores The Toy Box: Toys & Collections. In this session, children will work from a playful still life inspired by a toy box, featuring a mix of shared objects alongside their own favourite toy or small collection. This combination encourages students to observe a variety of forms, scales, and textures while bringing a personal element into their work. Students will focus on capturing structure, proportion, and detail, exploring how different objects sit together within a composition. There will be a strong emphasis on arrangement, overlap, and creating a sense of depth within a busy and characterful set-up. Working with coloured pencils, children will develop techniques such as layering, blending, and building up colour gradually. They will explore how to create texture, refine details, and use controlled mark-making to bring their drawings to life. This workshop is ideal for children who enjoy detailed, focused work and want to build confidence in observational drawing. Suitable for both beginners and those looking to refine their skills, it offers an engaging way to explore personal objects through careful study. By the end of the session, each participant will have created a detailed toy-inspired drawing, developing their understanding of composition, texture, and form through observational work. Spaces are limited—early booking is recommended. Knowledge Required Beginner-friendly. What You'll Get All equipment and materials provided. What to Bring A bottle of water and a small nut-free snack. Old clothes and dress warmly. Session Repeats Each workshop in the series runs as an individual session with a different theme.
