Service Description
Royal Academy Artist Elizabeth Blackadder Inspired Observational Studies: Watercolour Flowers This May Half Term, children are invited to slow down and observe the natural world in this thoughtful two-session workshop inspired by artist Elizabeth Blackadder, the first women to be elected to the Royal Academy. This workshop is perfect for young artists who enjoy careful looking and delicate, detailed work. Across the two sessions, children will create observational studies of flowers, focusing on capturing shape, structure, and subtle details. Inspired by Blackadder’s quiet and sensitive approach, they will explore how to translate what they see into expressive and refined artwork. Students will be guided through key techniques including careful observation, light sketching, and building up layers of colour. There will be a strong emphasis on composition, negative space, and the use of gentle, controlled marks to create balanced and elegant pieces. This workshop is ideal for children who enjoy a calm, focused approach to art making, have an interest in nature, and want to build confidence in drawing and painting from observation. Suitable for both beginners and those looking to refine their skills, the sessions provide a supportive and inspiring environment to develop patience, precision, and artistic sensitivity. By the end of the two sessions, each participant will have created their own observational floral artwork, developing a deeper understanding of form, composition, and the process of looking closely. Spaces are limited—early booking is recommended. Knowledge Required Beginner-friendly. What You'll Get All equipment and materials provided.
