Mythical Creatures: Hybrid Beasts & Expressive Illustration Let there imagination run wild in this two-day holiday art workshop, where young artists aged 8 and up will dream up fantastical beasts by combining features from real animals. This class is all about creativity, detail, and bringing original mythical creatures to life through expressive mixed media illustration. Students will explore textures, patterns, and anatomy in the natural world, which could include studying fur, feathers, scales, claws, wings, and more. Then, they’ll design their own mythical hybrid, blending elements from multiple animals to invent a completely unique creature. Using drawing, collage, and layered materials, they’ll create a bold and detailed final artwork. What to Expect Over two sessions, students will: - Study real animals to understand how texture, structure, and pattern work. - Experiment with combining anatomical features to invent new hybrid creatures. - Explore drawing, mark-making, and mixed media techniques. - Learn how to use contrast, colour layering, and surface detail to bring their creature to life. - Complete a striking final illustration of an imagined mythical beast. Perfect for children who love fantasy, storytelling, and richly detailed art. There’s plenty of space for wild ideas and thoughtful artistic development. What to Bring - A nut-free snack and a bottle of water - Old clothes or an apron – we’ll be layering up with colour and texture Session Schedule This is a two-day course, held on consecutive days during the school holidays.
