Cityscapes Inspired by the Impressionists Step into the vibrant world of the Impressionists in this two-day holiday workshop designed for children aged 8 and up. Budding artists will take inspiration from the River Thames and its iconic bridges and landmarks, learning how to capture atmosphere, light, and movement in the style of Monet & Turner, and other impressionist painters. We’ll begin by exploring how Impressionist artists revolutionised painting—using bold brushwork, unexpected colour combinations, and a focus on mood over detail. Students will then create their own impressionist cityscape using layered colour and expressive mark-making, transforming familiar London scenes into glowing works of art. What to Expect Over two sessions, students will: - Study key Impressionist paintings, focusing on colour blending, brushwork, and capturing light. - Sketch views of the Thames, bridges, or imagined landmarks using soft lines and simple shapes. - Learn how to build up colour in layers to create depth, movement, and atmosphere. - Experiment with colour mixing to represent shifting light and shadow. - Complete a final cityscape painting full of energy, colour, and expressive style. Perfect for children who enjoy expressive painting, city scenes, and experimenting with colour in new ways. What to Bring - A nut-free snack and a bottle of water - Old clothes or an apron – things might get splashy! Session Schedule This is a two-day course, held on consecutive days during the school holidays. Class sizes are small to allow for plenty of one-on-one guidance. Early booking is recommended.
