Service Description
This holiday, we’re introducing a series of seven observational drawing workshops—one each week. While each session builds on the last to develop skills progressively, they are also designed as standalone workshops, so children can join whichever themes interest them. Each session focuses on a new subject, allowing young artists to explore a range of ideas while developing a strong foundation in drawing and composition. The third workshop in the series of Observational drawing explores Kitchen Chaos: Cooking Still Life. In this session, children will work from a lively kitchen still life, featuring mixers, bowls, spoons, bags of flour and sugar, and eggs. The set-up will feel busy and slightly chaotic, encouraging students to observe overlapping forms and think carefully about how objects sit together within a composition. Students will focus on capturing structure, proportion, and the relationship between objects, while exploring the contrast between soft, powdery materials and more solid or reflective surfaces. Working with oil pastels, children will develop techniques such as layering, blending, and building up rich colour. They will explore how to create bold marks, enhance texture, and use colour to bring energy and movement to their compositions. There will be a strong emphasis on composition, simplifying complex shapes, and creating depth within a busy arrangement. This workshop is ideal for children who enjoy observational drawing and want to explore expressive use of colour and texture. Suitable for both beginners and those looking to refine their skills, it offers a dynamic and engaging approach to drawing from life. By the end of the session, each participant will have created a vibrant kitchen still life, developing their understanding of composition, texture, and form through observational work.
