Service Description
Frida Kahlo: The Making of an Icon Inspired by the major Frida: The Making of an Icon exhibition at Tate Modern, this holiday workshop explores the life, symbolism, and instantly recognisable style of Frida Kahlo. The exhibition examines Kahlo’s many identities, artist, activist, icon, and storyteller, through her self-portraits, personal objects, and the lasting influence of her work. During the workshop, children will look closely at artworks from the exhibition and explore how Kahlo used portraiture, symbolism, costume, animals, plants, and colour to express identity and emotion within her paintings. Students can choose either to create a faithful artist study inspired by one of Kahlo’s works, or imaginatively place themselves within the world of a Frida Kahlo portrait, becoming the central figure within their own artist-inspired composition. There will be a strong focus on observational drawing, portrait structure, composition, and decorative detail, while encouraging students to think creatively about storytelling through imagery and symbolism. Suitable for children who enjoy portraiture, artist-inspired projects, and imaginative artwork, this workshop offers an engaging introduction to one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. By the end of the session, each participant will have created a bold and expressive artwork inspired by the iconic imagery and visual language of Frida Kahlo. Spaces are limited — early booking is recommended. Knowledge Required - Beginner-friendly. What You'll Get - All equipment and materials provided.
