Service Description
Observational Drawing Series: Seven Weeks of Holiday Workshops This holiday, we’re introducing a series of seven observational drawing workshops—one each week. While each session builds on the last to develop skills progressively, they are also designed as standalone workshops, so children can join whichever themes interest them. Each session focuses on a new subject, allowing young artists to explore a range of ideas while developing a strong foundation in drawing and composition. The first workshop in the series explores Hanging Still Life: Defying Gravity. In this session, children will work from a suspended still life arrangement, where objects appear to float in space. This unique set-up encourages students to think carefully about composition, balance, and placement, while exploring the relationship between positive and negative space. Students will focus on capturing shape, form, and structure, learning how to organise their composition and understand how objects sit within a space—even when that space feels unexpected. There will be a strong emphasis on observation, proportion, and the careful placement of each element within the page. The session will begin with monochrome studies to explore tone and structure, before gradually introducing colour to develop depth and atmosphere within the final piece. This workshop is ideal for children who enjoy focused, observational work and want to strengthen their drawing skills. Suitable for both beginners and those looking to refine their technique, it offers a thoughtful and engaging approach to understanding how we see and represent the world around us. By the end of the session, each participant will have created a considered still life drawing, with a deeper understanding of composition, space, and tonal development. Spaces are limited—early booking is recommended. Knowledge Required Beginner-friendly. What You'll Get All equipment and materials provided. What to Bring A bottle of water and a small nut-free snack. Old clothes and dress warmly. Session Repeats Each workshop in the series runs as an individual session with a different theme.
